Our local MP has raised the issue of transport at a House of Commons session.

The Parish Council are holding its Annual Parish Meeting on Tuesday 16th April from 6:30pm.

The Parish Council are seeking an accounts auditor.

You may have seen the road signs that have very recently gone up announcing a two week road closure between Overton Lane and Fretherne from 2 to 16 October.

GCC Highways say that this morning they rejected this application because of inadequate diversion planning. They haven't yet told us which organisation made the application and say they have asked for the signs to be removed.

As parish councillors we will continue to keep an eye on the justification for, and seek improved planning, of such things; scrutinising in particular whether the main road into our village can be safely kept open using traffic lights, temporary speed restrictions etc.

GAPTC Welcomes Chris Haine as the new CEO

The Gloucestershire Association of Parish and Town Councils (GAPTC) is delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Haine as its new Chief Executive Officer, starting full time on 25 October. With a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to community development, he is poised to steer GAPTC towards an even brighter future.

GAPTC, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and empowering parish and town councils across Gloucestershire, has been at the heart of supporting the first tier of government for many years.

The appointment of Chris is a pivotal moment in GAPTC's journey, as it brings a new level of leadership to the organisation.

Chris brings a robust background in the work of local councils, having been the Town Clerk at Coleford Town Council, a role in which he has demonstrated his passion for enhancing local communities. He also brings with him an in-depth understanding of the unique challenges faced by local councils. He has experience with GAPTC having run several of its training courses in the past. Previously, he worked at DEFRA (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs) for many years.

Steve Ponting, Chair of the GAPTC Executive Committee, expressed his enthusiasm for Chris’ appointment: "We are thrilled to welcome Chris Haine to the GAPTC family. The entire GAPTC team is excited about the energy and fresh perspectives that Chris will bring to the organisation. This appointment marks an important chapter in GAPTC's journey of service to the community, and it promises to be a period of innovation and progress.

Today, 29 August, the parish council has completed the acquisition of the Mediaeval Village Pound and adjacent verge. We now have a title deed.

Our grateful thanks to Jon Wilkinson for all his pro bono legal work which has resulted in this success.

The Next steps are:

1. Parish Council on 4 September when the draft bid document prepared to support our funding bid to the Enovert Community Trust is due to be considered and signed off.
2. Funding application/bid to the Enovert Community Trust for them to receive by 8 September. Outcome due to be announced in mid October.
3. Application to the Land Registry during September to register the site to the Parish Council. It’s acknowledged that this will take a year or more for the Land Registry to deal.
4. Outcome of funding bid and final decision whether to proceed with the Village Pound restoration project and wildflower/wildlife initiatives considered by Parish Council on 6 November. This is the meeting each year when the parish council agrees its budget and the parish precept (the amount raised through council tax).

Update 25th July - Highways have confirmed that BT are removing ivy from around a telegraph pole in order to undertake a pole test and that the below still stands - the work should be complete by lunchtime with access when safe to do so.

Regarding the road closure on 28th July from Friday Street to Rasher Farm. Highways have confirmed the works to be undertaken are vegetation clearance and periodic test of one telegraph pole. Access will be maintained for residents into and out of Arlingham when safe to do so. The work should take no more than 2-3hours and the road should be fully passable again by lunchtime.

Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey about the future to the Village Pound.

We had a very good number of participants – 85 in total, and the response was an overwhelmingly positive one, with 93% in favour of seeing the Pound restored. Open for full results.

Much work has been done to investigate the options for the Village Pound. As a result we have this draft report which has already been shared. Many thanks to Cllr Shaw who has done much of the investigating and drafting for the report.
