You're Invited: Take Part in the 2025 Severn Estuary Big Beach Clean!
Dear beach cleaners and litter pickers,
It’s that time again - the Severn Estuary Big Beach Clean is back for 2025! Running from the 19th to the 28th of September, we’re looking to bring together local authorities, businesses, communities, and individuals from across the region to help clean up and protect our incredible coastline. We’re proud to align with the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean, making your efforts part of a wider national movement.
Why it matters:
The Severn Estuary is a unique and ecologically rich environment, home to internationally important habitats and species - but it faces growing pressure from an increasing amount of marine litter and pollution. During the Big Beach Clean 2024, over 10,000 pieces of litter were removed by our amazing volunteers, helping to protect local wildlife, improve water quality, and keep the estuary a safe, healthy and clean place for all of us to enjoy.
How can you get involved? It’s easy!
If you want to play a part in protecting the Severn, just email Severn@cardiff.ac.uk with the following details:
-
Location: Where will your clean-up take place? (Please include a postcode if possible)
-
Date(s): When will you be heading out?
-
Time: What time will you start and how long are you aiming to clean for?
-
Promotion: Are you planning to promote the event through social media, emails, newsletters, posters, or local news? Let us know!
-
Support: Is there any support that we can offer to make your clean-up even more impactful?
We are also encouraging those who take part to use the Marine Conservation Society’s Beach Clean Volunteer Survey to report the types and quantities of litter collected. This provides them with valuable information that can be used to identify trends in the types of litter being found in different places. Find the survey and more at: https://www.mcsuk.org/what-you-can-do/join-a-beach-clean/useful-guides-and-resources/
We’re aiming to cover as much of the Severn Estuary coastline as possible, and we need your help to make it happen! Follow us on our website and social media (@SevernEstuary) for updates and share our posts to spread the word. The more people we reach, the bigger our impact – and no matter how much of your time you can commit to the project, every effort makes a real difference.
Please also share the attached “Save the Date” with anyone who you think might like to get involved! Let’s all come together again to #SpruceUpTheSevern and show how much our local coastal environment means to us all.
Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing the amazing results of your efforts.
Best wishes,
Lewis and the Severn Estuary Partnership Team
